Maltodextrin is nothing more than a simple sugar and has no real micronutrient content or fiber content, making it far less than ideal as a carb source. Go and grab a high quality whey protein powder, and then just blend in your own carbohydrates, such as fruit, oatmeal, yogurt etc. This way you'll be getting a weight gainer shake that contains high quality protein but that is also micronutrient dense and delivers some fiber as well. You can boost the nutritional content of your mass gainer shake even further by adding in some healthy fats as well, such as natural peanut butter or healthy oils.

So although you'll find a lot of different mass gainer protein reviews out there recommending these high calorie commercial shakes, my advice is to just take a few extra minutes to make your weight gain shakes at home. It will still provide all of the calories you need to support muscle recovery and growth, but will also provide the vitamins, minerals and fiber that you need for optimal health and performance.
