Standing Deep Breathing (STB) Bikram Yoga with John Golterman

The Standing Deep Breathing Pose is the first posture performed during any Bikram Yoga session, before the main 26 postures.

Purposes & Benefits
This pose is performed to help transfer as much oxygen to your muscles and organs as possible, to expand your lungs, and to help put your mind at ease as well as increase your focus. It will also help get your heart pumping, sending blood throughout the body.

It's important to note that the Standing Deep Breathing pose is just as important as any other posture in your session. Many beginners mistakenly assume that it's not as important as the other Bikram postures. On the contrary, the Standing Deep Breathing Pranayama sets the tone. If you skip it, nothing after it will have the same effect as if you had put serious focus on the STB.

About John Golterman:
John Golterman is a senior teacher of the Bikram method and founder of Bikram Yoga, Williamsburg in New York City. After ten years of teaching and studying several forms of yoga, John trained under Bikram Choudhury himself in Beverly Hills and became certified in the spring of 2000.

Inspired by that program, John came back to NYC and opened his first studio, Bikram Yoga Chelsea, in 2001. In the first 3 years of Bikram Yoga Chelsea, John introduced over 10,000 students to the Bikram method. In 2004, he opened Bikram Yoga Williamsburg.
