Many children who go to the schools in India that Sahaya supports in India with our partner organization, READ (Jawahar Matriculation School, Mother Teresa School) are from underprivileged families that struggle to give their children a balanced diet. The diet, which is mostly vegetarian, is usually rich in carbohydrates and fat, but is low on protein. However, protein is an important building block of the body, and is also crucial for proper brain development and learning.
Therefore, starting in February 2017, we started to raise funds to start a new program. The children bring already a lunch to school (such a rice, idli, dosa, chapatti). We supplement this with an egg. Thanks to a first donor, we started to do this now one day a week, but with your support, we hope to increase it gradually to 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday).
The cost to provide 230 children with one egg is only $40.
Currently 2 donors, Mary and Nancy, have already made a donation. If you make a donation, which can be in honor of someone, we will be happy to make a similar clip or send a photograph of the children holding a message.
