The holistic approach to health is based on the belief that the body can heal itself if given the right tools. The holistic approach to Type 2 Diabetes is to focus on diet and nutrition, exercise, stress reduction and energy healing. The holistic approach to Type 2 Diabetes focuses on reducing blood sugar levels and boosting metabolism.
With respect to Type 2 diabetes, it is important to maintain a healthy weight and to end obesity and smoking. It is important to reduce body fat (measured as BMI) to acceptable levels. The holistic approach to achieve this is through diet, exercise, stress reduction and natural supplements.
For type 2 diabetes, we must look at food as medicine. Generally speaking, we should only consume foods that contain a lot of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. A high nutrient diet is recommended. This diet should consist almost entirely of whole fresh vegetables (especially green vegetables) with some whole fresh fruit (especially apples and pears) and berries. A little bit of whole grains (quinoa, couscous and kasha), berries, nuts and seeds is alright. Dried beans are good. They are filled with protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals and are low glycemic foods. Dried mung beans, garbanzo beans, black beans and lentils are particularly good. Pinto beans, kidney beans, green beans, black eyed peas, great northern beans and navy beans are also good. Avoid starchy vegetables such as white potatoes. For protein, legumes, eggs and fish are recommended. But, at least 80% of the diet should consist of whole, fresh, non-starchy vegetables. Organic and raw vegetables are best. Whole fresh vegetables provide vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants so needed by the body.
Avoid refined sugar and starches and processed foods, soda and sugary drinks including artificially sweetened drinks. Processed foods are often highly caloric and they raise blood sugar levels. This is because they often contain high fructose corn syrup and other refined sugars and starches along with trans-fats and other fats that spike blood sugar levels. Generally speaking, processed foods contain empty calories and have no nutritional value. The body needs and craves nutrients. Processed foods keep you hungry because they do not satisfy the body’s need for nutrition. When you eat mostly whole fresh vegetables you will not get so hungry because these foods contain the vitamins, minerals and anti -oxidants the body needs.
So, with respect to Type 2 diabetes, avoid or greatly reduce your consumption of refined sugar, refined starches (such as cookies, chips, cake, bread, etc.) and animal based saturated fats from meat, dairy and eggs, refined oils and trans-fats. They increase blood sugar and blood lipid levels. Substitute some whole grains instead such as oatmeal, quinoa, kasha and cous cous. Some recommend a gluten free diet. Substitute a limited amount of plant based fats and oils for animal based fats and trans-fats (including extra virgin coconut oil and olive oil, avocados, nuts and seeds).
Weight loss is important of you are obese or overweight. A plant-based, whole food organic diet primarily of whole fresh vegetables, fruit, and a limited amount of whole organic grains, nuts and seeds is important for weight loss along with daily exercise. To curb appetite, drink hot tea or water and water with lemon or a piece of fruit before a meal to curb appetite.
Avoid or greatly reduce your consumption of animal-based saturated fats (fats found in dairy and meat) and trans-fats. They increase blood sugar levels. Good fats include plant-based fats (i.e., those found in fish oil, extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil, flaxseed oil, seeds, nuts and avocados. Organic is best because it does not have as many chemicals/pesticides in it. However, non-organic (non-GMO) whole vegetables, fruit and berries are better than processed foods. Your diet should be primarily whole fresh non starchy organic vegetables. If you wish to eat fruit, limit the amount of fruit and you eat. Berries (especially blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries) are better than other fruit with respect to blood sugar.
Consume whole vegetables to maximize nutrients (I. e., in salads and fresh juices). Lightly cooking and steaming vegetables is fine. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale along with beets, broccoli, sprouts and mushrooms are a good place to start. Try super foods such as chlorella, spirulina, wheatgrass and garlic for nutrients. They can be taken as supplements.
If you want a sweetener, avoid refined sugar. Use whole sweeteners such as honey, stevia or maple syrup instead.
For type 2 diabetes, it is important to take natural supplements. These supplements include good sized doses of vitamin a, b-complex, c, d3, e, k1 and k2 along with full spectrum colloidal trace minerals supplements.
Also, take good sized doses of co q 10 or ubiquinol, grape seed extract and fish oil/flaxseed oil/hemp oil supplements (omega 3, 6 and 9) and omega 7 supplements and turmeric or curcumin supplements and coconut oil. These supplements along with vitamins and trace minerals fight oxidation and inflammation at the cellular level. Type 2 diabetes involves cellular oxidation and inflammation, so it must be fought with anti-oxidants and anti inflammation supplements. Eat prebiotic foods such as garlic and onion, take probiotic supplements and eat fermented food. This will help improve digestion and metabolism.
Other recommended natural supplements for Type 2 diabetes include astragalus, resveratrol, dhea, gymnema sylvestre, alpha lipoic acid, 5 htp, chromium, chromium picolinate, olive leaf extract, fenugreek, cinammon, bitter melon, okra, inositol, pine bark extract, ginseng, vanadium/vanadyl sulfate, berberine, bilberry, aloe vera, fenugreek and banaba leaf extract, turmeric/curcumin supplements, and magnesium. Detoxify the body with chorella and spirulina, fresh parsley and cilantro, fresh lemon and water, grapefruit and grapefruit seed extract, apple cider vinegar and food grade hydrogen peroxide diluted with water. Take milk thistle and dandelion root for liver and kidney cleansing and iodine and nascent iodine, selenium and guggelgum for thyroid cleansing. Also, holistic research indicates the benefits of N-acetly cysteine (NAC) to help replenish cellular glutathione to fight disease.
For control of blood sugar, take cinnamon and cinnamon supplements, black cumin seed supplements, bitter melon and bitter melon supplements, fenugreek, holy basil and neem. Depending on how long a person has had Type 2 Diabetes and the severity of the illness, insuln may be required to bring blood sugar levels down.
Also to control blood sugar, make a bitter melon-okra juice and drink it at least twice a day. Boil water and pour it into a pitcher filled with sliced fresh bitter melon and several pieces of sliced fresh okra. Let the juice steep for 24 hours before drinking it. Pour the juice into a glass and drink it.
Also, on a daily basis consume some cinnamon, fresh turmeric, fresh ginger and garlic. These natural ingredients will help normalize blood pressure and blood sugar and will also help fight oxidation and inflammation at the cellular level.
Holistic research indicates the benefits of ozone/oxygen therapy combined with the other holistic techniques. Type 2 diabetes also often results in poor circulation. Take co-q 10/ubiquinol, lycopene, lutein. cayenne pepper, niacin, gingko biloba and fish oil, krill oil, flaxseed oil and/or hemp oil to improve circulation. Also, beets and tomatoes are good for circulation.
De-toxify your body with filtered water (put fresh lemon in your water), milk thistle supplements, green tea, dandelion, cilantro, apple cider vinegar and water and the high nutrient diet, vitamins and minerals and herbal supplements discussed above. This will help de-toxify the liver and body. A well-functioning liver filters out toxins. Get massages and reflexology and energy cleansing and healing (Reiki/energy healing) to cleanse and heal the energy body and to get your energy to flow better.
Exercise is important. Do daily cardio exercises and lift weights. This will help reduce blood sugar and boosts the metabolism. At the very least, walk briskly for a few miles per day (ideally with weights in your hands) and lift weight to build muscles. Muscles help boost the body’s metabolism and ability to burn blood sugar.
Stress reduction is very important. Stress keeps blood sugar levels high. Stress releases cortisol and adrenalin into the blood stream and this is very destructive of health in general. It causes blood sugar to spike and remain in the bloodstream for long periods.
Natural supplements that help reduce stress and relax the body include valerian root, b12 vitamins, holy basil, hawthorn, bitter melon, neem, magnesium, dark chocolate/cocoa, kava kava and chamomile.
Exercise, stretching and yoga are important to reduce stress and get energy to flow through the body to help heal it. Daily meditation and deep breathing exercises are also important to relieve stress. Get into nature often and visualize pleasant scenes from nature in your meditations. In meditation, focus on the color light blue or scenes of large bodies of water or running water. Listen to relaxing music. All this helps reduce stress. Fresh cut and fragrant flowers and classical and harmonious music help reduce stress. Turn off the news and turn on this type of music. It also helps relieve stress to have one or more running water displays in your home.
Essential oils are helpful to reduce stress. These include rose and floral essential oils and lavender and vanilla. You can get a bottle of these essential oils and smell them to help relieve stress. Take hot salt baths with lavender in them. This helps relieve stress. Work with healing crystals. Crystals that help promote inner peace and calm include fluorite and angel light. Crystals that help promote health include citrine and green aventurine. Crystals that help reduce blood sugar include bloodstones. In addition, gold will help balance your energy. Hold these crystals and gold in your hand when you meditate and carry them in your pockets.
To reduce stress, it is important to minimize stress factors. Reduce conflict and drama in your life and negative and impulsive reaction to situations. Avoid and/or build strong boundaries with negative and toxic people. It is important to avoid stressful environments and situations. Your focus must be to maintain your health, energy and inner peace while healing. Stress and negativity are destructive of good health.
Most stress comes from our thoughts and emotions. To reduce stress in our lives, we must asset control over our thoughts and emotions and choose happiness and inner peace. This requires us to let go of the painful past and negative and painful incidents and stop ourselves from thinking about them. We must be mindful of our thoughts and emotions and then move them from negative to positive as quickly as possible. Negative thoughts lead to negative emotions, acts and speech. Negative and rigid beliefs lead to negative thoughts and a negative inner-voice. So, we need to get rid of negative and rigid beliefs, open our minds and change our beliefs from negative to positive.
Many rigid and negative beliefs are held at the subconscious/cellular level. They were adopted as part of our response to traumas and life experience. So, we must change our subconscious and conscious beliefs from negative to positive and open our minds and shed rigid beliefs in order to change our thoughts and inner voice from negative to positive. This will improve our mental and emotional state and our energy and reduce stress. Subconscious and conscious beliefs can be changed from negative beliefs to positive beliefs through positive affirmation exercises
Reiki and energy healing, along with emotional release techniques and massage are also important to reduce stress and negativity. They, along with meditation and deep breathing techniques, will help get the mind and body to relax. When you are in a relaxed, positive and happy state, energy flows through you more freely. This is the best medicine of all.
Take time each day to de-stress and relax. Lie down and do deep breathing exercises into the heart and meditate and pray from the heart, even if it is only for a few minutes.
Be mindful of your thoughts, acts, speech and reactions. If they get negative, return to inner peace, balance and happiness as soon as possible. Get rid of fear, anxiety, guilt, resentment, regrets, shame and anger as soon as possible. Do not hold onto negativity. This is stressful. Do not suppress it. Instead, through visualizations, meditation, deep breathing and prayer, flush out negativity and stress and let it go.
To substantially reduce stress, it is important to live a conscious and mindful life, oriented to inner peace, balance, happiness and love and to live in the moment with full attention and awareness. You must cut unbalanced attachments and avoid or adjust co-dependent relationships because they compel ongoing negative thoughts that keep you in a state of stress.
Most of the time be heart centered and in the moment. Try to experience the moment in your heart and through your senses and not through running thoughts. Unfocused and uncontrolled thoughts tend to go negative. You can control your thoughts from the middle of your forehead and application of your will. Good posture helps cultivate focused and controlled thoughts. Negative thought and a negative inner voice tend to come from the back and sides of the head and are not focused or controlled.
When thinking, center yourself in the middle of your forehead. In this way, you can develop controlled and focused thoughts. Try to focus these thoughts on positive and productive activities to reduce stress. Focus on achieving and maintain inner peace, balance and joy. When something happens to agitate you, quickly return to a state of inner peace, balance and joy.
A lot of stress comes when we judge others or try to control them. This often leads to conflict and stress along with ongoing negative thoughts and a negative inner voice. Be mindful of these thoughts, stop them and let go. Understand that you cannot change or control others. So, accept them. If they cause you stress, then avoid them and/or build strong boundaries with them. If they drain your energy, avoid them and stop thinking about them.
Here are some exercises to cleanse and heal the energy body:
Cutting energy cords
The ego spins out energy attachments to people, things, substances and beliefs to fill a void. These energy attachments lead to unbalanced thoughts, obsessions, ruminations, lusts and addictions. As we build up the white light within and connect and integrate with higher self and inner child, the void disappears and we will not spin out these energy cords very much. In order to substantially reduce ruminations and obsessions and establish balance, it is important to cut energy cords. Energy cords should be cut with anyone or anything you have obsessive and ruminating thoughts about or ongoing negative thoughts about. This will help you achieve positive thinking and maintain inner peace, happiness and balance. So, to cut energy cords, do the following: Sit down and close your eyes. Visualize the energy cords that attach you to people, things, substances, ideas and beliefs that cause unbalanced or obsessive thoughts and addictions. Visualize them as cords connected to your heart and torso. With your weak hand visualize that you grab the cords. Then with your strong hand visualize that you cut them and sever them from you with a visualized knife or scissors. Visualize that the energy cords fall away.
Chakra cleansing, healing, balancing and alignment
Close your eyes and sit comfortably or lie down. Focus on each of the seven major chakra points, one at the time and visualize that you bathe them in white light. Then visualize each of the chakra colors one at a time with your eyes closed. YouTube has good chakra cleansing, healing, balancing and alignment meditation videos.
The Violet Flame
Sit comfortably close your eyes and focus on your breath. Get relaxed. Hold your hands open in a position of receiving from the Universe. Visualize a violet flame in front of you, like a campfire flame. Invite that flame into your body and feel it fill your body up from your belly to your throat. Feel it raise your vibrations as it burns off low vibration negative energy in you. Put citrine (high vibration crystal) over your heart or hold it in your left hand when you do this exercise.
Higher self and inner child meditation/visualizations
These exercises will help build up your inner power, self confidence, self esteem and happiness. This is done by connecting and integrating with your higher self (I. e., your soul) and inner child. Your higher self/soul is all loving, happy, holy and peaceful. Your inner child is full of happiness, wonder, energy and fun. When we are fully connected to and integrated with our higher self and inner child, we feel happy, peaceful, complete and confident. We have high self esteem, a lot of energy and we enjoy life. In meditation visualize a pure white angel that looks just like you (but is happy, peaceful and full of love and white light). See an energy cord connect you to that angel from your heart. Visualize that angel (your higher self) now merge with you. Visualize you as a child playing and having fun. See an energy cord connect you to that child from your heart. Visualize that child (your inner child) now merge with you. Visualize that you hug that child and tell him or her that he or she is safe and to just have fun. Take a pillow and visualize that pillow is you as a child and hug it. Tell the inner child you love him or her. Now, become the loving inner parent to our inner child. Indulge your inner child everyday by allowing yourself to have fun and do things that make you happy.
Meditation/visualizations to get rid of negativity
Here is an exercise to get rid of stored anger, fear, anxiety and painful and negative memories: Visualize the image of the painful event from the past or the image that worries you about the future. Close your eyes and visualize this image in a glass ball that hovers a few feet in front of you. Put your hands on this visualized ball and push it with force deep into the ground. Hear and feel the energy cords that attach you to the image snap and fall away. Do this over and over until the image no longer has an energetic grip on you and all related anger and fear melt away. As you push the ball deep into the ground say the following to yourself: “Into the ground, into the core go away, melt away, gone. ” In deep meditation, visualize positive scenes that make you feel happy. Focus on scenes from nature and celebrations.
Spiritual prayer from the heart is important to connect us to the Divine source of life force energy and our higher selves and to elevate our hearts and souls over our egos. Pray to the Divine from your heart daily. Give praise and thanks to the Divine, ask for forgiveness, and ask for protection and blessings. Recite in your heart the powerful prayers of your faith. With your eyes closed, offer all negativity and sin to the Divine and ask the Divine to lift all this from you. Visualize that you are offering up this negative bundle with your eyes closed and feel it lift from you.
Grounding is important to do to fully focus your mind and to be in the moment. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed and your feet firmly planted on the ground. Take off your shoes. Visualize that roots or laser beams shoot out from your feet and into the earth, going all the way to the center of the earth. Visualize that they anchor you firmly to the earth. Visualize that you draw the energy of the earth in through the soles of your feet and up your body.
Center yourself in the middle of your heart and the middle of your forehead and stand or sit straight. Posture is important. Negative thoughts and a negative inner voice come in when we are un-focused and slouching. Visualize a big white sun where your heart is located. Close your eyes and put your hand over your heart and shift your consciousness and energy to that spot. Alternatively, visualize an orb of white light above your head and below your feet and visualize that a beam of white light shoots out from the orbs and the light beams meet at the center of your body. With respect to centering in the middle of your forehead, put your fingers on your forehead and shift your energy and consciousness there. Center and focus. To fortify your ability to center and focus, do directed or seed mediation set forth above. Negative thoughts and a negative inner voice come from the sides and back of the head. Therefore, centering your energy and consciousness in the middle of your forehead is important to still the negative thoughts and negative inner voice. Be mindful of negative thoughts and a negative inner voice. When they come, switch to positive thoughts and images, positive affirmations, deep breathing exercises, centering yourself and staying focused in the moment. Live in the moment and your senses and not in your thoughts. Thoughts tend to always go negative when we live in them. Stop angry thoughts about the painful past or worried thoughts about the future especially. Just Be.
Visualization for energy and power
Sit comfortably with your eyes closed and your feet firmly planted on the ground. Clasp your hands together. Visualize and will the energy from the earth come up the soles of your feet, up your legs and accumulate as a molten mass of energy in your solar plexus. Hold that energy there. Alternatively, visualize a bright white sun in the middle of your solar plexus or an orb of white light in front of you that shoots white light in you. Visualize this white light accumulate like a molten mass of energy in your solar plexus. Hold the energy in your solar plexus for awhile. Meditate on the color yellow for energy and power and orange for happiness.
Visualize the bright white sun. Imagine that you fly into the center of the sun and you are then surrounded by the blazing white light of the sun. Now, linger there and feel your vibrations rise as you are surrounded and filled by the sun’s blazing white light.
