"How Much Whey Protein Should I Take?"

So you've decided to include a whey supplement in your diet plan, but are wondering what the correct whey protein dosage is for safe and effective results.

People always ask me "how much whey protein should I take", but the fundamental misunderstanding here is the fact that whey protein is not actually a "supplement" at all.

Whey is simply a natural dairy derivative and is extracted during the process of converting milk into cheese, and it already makes up about 20% of the protein content of regular milk.

So, asking how much protein powder to take daily is really no different than asking how much chicken breast or steak you should eat. Whey protein is simply a convenient form of powdered food and doesn't need to be viewed any differently than any other typical whole food protein source you might consume.

How many whey protein shakes you personally consume per day is really just a matter of personal preference and depends on how your overall meal plan is structured. I would recommend that you aim to get in a few different sources of protein throughout the day for balanced overall nutrition, and for most people, 1-3 protein shakes a day is usually the norm.

Personally, I consume around 200 grams of protein per day, and about half of that is derived from whey. However, that's just how much whey protein I personally take, and your amount may be a bit higher or lower than this. Protein powder dosage really just depends on how you enjoy the taste/convenience of whey in comparison to other sources, and it ultimately just comes down to you as an individual and what you prefer.
