JM Blakley competing at the Iron Island Bench Press Classic at Ken Leistners gym in the late 90s. He manage a 605 lbs / 275 kg bench press in the 242 lbs / 110 kg class. Later that year, in oktober 1999 he did a 660 lbs / 300 kg bench press at 242 lbs / 110 kg body weight. That put him in a third place at top 100 list in Powerlifting USA with only his teammates Kenny Patterson and George Halbert beating him.
JM Blakley was one of the most competitive benchers in the 90s and early 2000s. In one year he completed in four different weight classes and did 16 meets. JM manage to bench press over 700 lbs / 318 kg in a time when the shirts didn't give a lot and no one has officially done 800 lbs / 363 kg. Through his career he won some National and world titles. In 1994 he won the APF raw bench nationals and later won both WPC and IPA worlds along with many pro meets. He also write some articles for Powerlifting USA where he spread some of his thoughts and knowledge.
