Beginning juicing of course involves buying a juicer. While you may have to shell out a few bucks at first it is certainly worth your while not to skimp.
There are of course many low cost juicers and as a beginner juicer you may feel that you would like to stick to a reasonable budget. Though it is tempting to opt for a lower cost juicer when you are not sure how long you will stick to this new regime, it is worth noting that buying a juicer that doesn’t work that effectively or takes a long time to clean can actually be itself the reason many people quit juicing!
Some lower cost juicers don’t have that much room for containing the pulp. This can mean that if you are making a big batch of juice for the day or for a family you will have to stop half way through and clean out the juicer.
Obviously this can be a real hassle and can make juicing a long draw out and essentially unpleasant affair. Moreover, smaller style juicers often don’t have a wide enough mouth for some produce, meaning that you have to cut up carrots and other veggies into very small pieces thereby requiring more time as well.
Though a fancy, powerful juicer does cost a small fortune, if you are really committed to juicing for life then you’ll want to invest in a decent juicer. Obviously reading reviews and talking to friends and family that juice regularly is a good way to begin your search.
Looking for second hand juicers that are in good shape and are a well known brand with a good reputation is a way to get the power, speed and convenience you need with out having to shell out for a new model.
So once you’ve finally gotten your juicer of choice you can begin juicing your way to a healthier you.
Preparing your fruits and vegetables for juicing is now the second step in the process. Whenever you can you will want to buy organically grown produce. This will help to ensure that pollutants and other harmful pesticides and chemicals don’t make their way into your body, in effect ruining all of your hard work and dedication to health.
When you simply cannot get an organic produce for whatever reason, make sure to spend some time washing and peeling when possible the fruit or vegetable in mind. Use a vegetable brush to remove chemical residues and waxes. These can be found at most health foods shops.
Next make sure that the produce is in good shape. When buying fruit make sure it is not to ripe and not too under-ripe.
When juicing fruits some small seeds can be left in. Get rid of apple seeds though because these contain cyanide which is a toxic substance. Pits on other fruits must always be removed so as not to do damage to your juicer.
Oranges, grapefruits, papayas, apricots, kiwis and peaches and pineapples should have the skins removed. The skins of the tropical fruits are often sprayed with chemicals, especially when they are grown in countries that might not have the same laws.
The skins of oranges and grapefruits are bitter, and in the case of grapefruits contain a toxic substance that it is best not to consume.
Stems and leaves are generally okay, but carrot and rhubarb greens have a toxic substance.
Fruits with very little water content such as bananas, avocados, and papayas should be pureed before using. Stir these into the juice afterwards rather than using a juicer.
If you use potatoes for juicing you will want to make sure to peel or wash very thoroughly. Also ensure that the potatoes do not have a green tint. You will also wan tot make sure that you remove any eyes or sprouts from the potatoes.
Green veggies are especially potent for juicing as they are chalked full of important phytochemicals and chlorophyll. User cabbage, kale, barley grass, spinach and wheat grass. Wheat grass is an especially potent juice that is useful in the treatment of cancer.
Drink four glass of juice a day if you are seeking to recover from an illness or other ailment. While two glasses a day will certainly boost your health, during times of intense stress or sickness, more is certainly better.
