You've heard you should be eating more fiber, but you're not really sure where to get it from. In today's smart tip, I'm gonna give you some simple ways to fill up with fiber. First of all, fiber helps feed the good bacteria in the gut, which is really important for good immune system functioning, gives you poops that you can be proud of, increases transit time through the intestinal system, slows down stomach emptying which improves satiety -- making you feel fuller longer, so you're not hungry. Fiber helps control blood sugar, it helps lower LDL cholesterol, and raise HDL cholesterol. So, a lot of huge benefits from fiber. My gosh, if this was a drug, everyone would be prescribing it! And instead, it actually comes in some really great tasting food. First thing, nuts and seeds. By the way, one of my favorite nuts and seeds, especially for fiber, is chia; try this one -- if you throw this into your morning shake, you will be full for hours. Fruits are great, especially apples and berries; the pectins in apples actually help heal the gut. Of course, all of the non-starchy vegetables are good. But think too of some of the grains -- quinoa and oatmeal are fabulous. And you may want to supplement with some extra fiber. I use a product called Sunfiber, which is the only truly regulating fiber -- that means if you have a little diarrhea, it helps stop that; if you have constipation, it helps with that.
