Fasting To Lose Weight

Fasting to lose weight is a sure fire way to lose weight of you have the will power to fast, but it can be dangerous if you over do it. Fasting to lose weight can cause organ damage, lose of lean muscle mass and heart failure.  So if you are thinking of fasting to lose weight a 3 day fast is the most you should ever do and you should use the following precautions.

Fasting Tips

1. Never fast consuming water alone.  This can really leach much needed chemicals from your body and result in irregular heart beats to complete cardiac arrest. Fasting to lose weight this way is not wise.

2. You should be supervised by a qualified health professional and not just using someones new age ebook as a guide. Fasting to lose weight must be done right.

3. Do not chew gum or any other substance during your fast.  Chewing signals the stomach to start producing acid for digestion so chewing while fasting to lose weight could result in heart burn.

4. It took years to get your body in the shape that it is in so it isn’t going to become what you want it to be overnight.

Not The Only Way To Fast To Lose Weight

Of course a 3 day fast isn’t the only way to fast to lose weight.  You could go on an intermittent fasting program where you fast every other day and eat normally in between.  In fact, this is probably a safer way to do it, but again don’t just go on a water only fast.  A great guide to this type of fasting is found in the fasting to lose weight guide, Eat Stop Eat.

Fasting can take many forms and it doesn’t always mean that you eat absolutely nothing.  For instance you might go on a partial fast where you eat only vegetables, or fruit.  This type of fasting to lose weight is the safest way to fast and it can be very effective in losing weight.

Juice Fasting For Weight Loss? Why it is Not a Good Idea

There are many out there that advocate juice fasting as a way to lose weight quickly. And while you will lose weight it is my opinion that juice fasting to lose weight should not be the someone’s first option. In this article, I intend to explain the true purpose of fasting and the reasons why fasting for weight loss is probably notthe best alternative for dieting.

For thousands of years, people have been fasting. Fasting is usually associated with spiritual enlightenment or as a preventative for disease. Because of the possibilities of weight loss, many people have gravitated to juice fasting as a means to drop weight quickly.

Personally, I fast 4 times a year. I do this because I want to eliminate excess toxic build up that simply comes from our environment, our food and in the water we drink.

The reason why we lose weight when fasting is simple. If you aren’t giving your body the calories it needs, it will resort to finding calories from your fat stores and muscles. Typically, the first day, your body is burning off the stored sugar in your body. Once it has burned off the stored sugar, it will start to cannibalize the muscles back down into amino acids and the liver will transform this into sugar. Your brain needs sugar to operate.

On the second day, your body will go into a process called ketosis and raid your fat stores for energy. This is an important part of fasting because the toxic buildup is actually stored in your fat. It also explains why some of the foods we eat, such as fish, is still contaminated with toxins such as PCB’s and mercury. As your body burns fat for energy, your liver and kidneys focus on eliminating the toxins stored in your fat.

On the third day of a 3 day fast, you will typically lose those hunger pains. Some people will experience more energy and have a greater sense of awareness. During this time you could be dropping up to 2 pounds a day.

And this is the problem with fasting for weight loss. First of all, you should talk to a doctor before you start a fast because fasting does mess with your blood sugar levels. Because you lose those hunger pains, someone who is wanting to lose 10 quick pounds is likely to stay on a fasting diet longer than they should. After 3 days, some of the benefits that come from a fast start to diminish. Your body will also burn both muscle tissue as well as fat during this process.

Another problem with juice fasting for weight loss is that, unlike a water fast, you body never reaches that state of ketosis that is so important when you are trying to lose weight through dieting.

Finally, once you come off the diet, it is very likely that you will almost immediately put back on the weight. When you are fasting to cleanse yourself of toxins, this isn’t a bad thing because you aren’t concerned with weight (and chances are good if you are concerned with toxic buildup in the body, you are probably eating properly in the first place).

In summation, while juice fasting is a very effective way for eliminating everyday toxins from your system and should be a staple for anyone who wants to implement a preventative for future disease and sickness, juice fasting solely for weight loss won’t give a person the long term results that they probably envision.
