In today’s video I am going to be talking about if you should do cardio before or after weight training. This question is most often asked by people looking to get the most amount of fat burn out of their cardio program. Obviously we would like to do that without sacrificing precious muscle mass.

Since we’re trying to get to the bottom of the most effective way to time our cardio program. We want to make sure that doing the cardio is actually burning fat. Doing the cardio before your workout, unless you’re working out on an empty stomach, is going to burn a mix of carbs and dietary fat. That means that you’re essentially going to be burning what you ate earlier that day during your cardio workout not fat. In fact it’ll probably take you a full half hour to just start burning body fat especially with steady state cardio.

The other downside to doing cardio before a workout is also related to the fact that we’re going to be burning the food we ate instead of fat. The food we ate, and the stored glycogen from previous meals was going to be valuable fuel for a beast mode workout. All I got to say is good luck with those squats after an hour of running.

You’re probably already thinking that cardio after the workout is the only way to go, but I haven’t even mentioned the biggest benefit to doing it after rather than before. You see when you’re doing cardio usually your goal is to burn body fat, and glycogen is like brick wall between you and you’re goal. Imagine that there’s a very busy highway and every car on this highway represents glycogen. There’s a cross street with a yield sign where cars are trying make a turn and get onto this highway. These cars represent your fat cells. While all the glycogen “cars” are zooming by the fat cell “cars” are just sitting there at the stop sign waiting their turn. Occasionally a fat cell “car” gets through, but for the most part when the glycogen cars are around the fat’s not getting through.Finally once there are no more glycogen cars the fat cell cars start going through one after the other at a much faster rate.

What all that means is that your body, which in this case is the highway prefers to use glycogen for energy. Meaning if you do cardio before your weight training you’re probably going to be using mostly glycogen to supply the energy. Fat cells on the other hand will be at the “stop sign” and will get used here and there at a low rate. Once all the glycogen is gone that’s when we start burning fat at a faster rate. Well how the heck do we get rid of all that glycogen?

Glycogen happens to be the body’s go to fuel when lifting weights, and whats even more awesome is that when you weight train glycogen is converted used for energy in mass quantities. So you’re going to burn right through that glycogen quick. After an hour or so of intense weight training you will have probably depleted the majority of the glycogen in your body. This means that directly after the weight training would be an ideal time to start cardio because now you’re body will have no choice but to burn fat at a higher rate.

If you still only want to do cardio before you’re workout then just understand that your going to run into a couple roadblocks. The major one is that your strength and energy levels are going to be depleted if you do a full out cardio session. The only time to do cardio before a workout is as a warm up at a low intensity. You don’t really need longer than 10 or 15 minutes to warm up.

Whether you do a HIIT workout or a steady state cardio workout you’re still going to burn more fat after weights because you’ll be in a glycogen depleted state. I prefer a HIIT workout because you can usually get the same if not better results than steady state cardio in half the time. An example of steady state cardio would be jogging on a treadmill, where as an example of HIIT cardio would be sprinting or boxing at a high intensity. Again you’ll burn more fat doing either one directly after weights, but I just prefer HIIT, it saves time.

The secret for the quickest way to burn fat is right in front of our faces everyday. We all know what needs to be done to burn fat yet we continue looking for faster and faster solutions. IN no time we’re chasing magic pills.

And we end up trying all kinds of other overnight fixes because they’re easier and faster than the daily hard work that’s required to see the results you want.

The solution is right in front of our faces all the time, but it requires hard consistent work over the course of your life. which if you’re anything like me, I’m pretty sure you’re hoping that’s going to last a while. So you have to develop the habits that you can implement for the rest of your life to burn fat and keep it off. The quickest way to lose weight is by losing it once, entering maintenance, and keeping it off forever. Not by jumping on a program that we drop 1 month later and gain all the weight back.

So I’m going to run through the things you have to do every day every week to see what you want to see in the mirror everyday and every week.

Focus first on what you’re stuffing down you throat. Let me make this simple. There is no magic food that you don’t know about that the people with six packs know about. So stop looking for it. Again, If you stop looking for the quick fix that doesn’t exist you’ll see the solution right in front of your face. The answer has already been found. Eat foods with one ingredient, for example a yam is a yam. Cauliflower is cauliflower. Brown rice is brown rice. Chicken breast is chicken breast. Cod is cod. Do you guys see where I’m going with this. Season your food for taste. Go crazy with seasoning. Eat foods with one ingredient and I promise you chances are you won’t want to eat so much of it that you go over your calorie allotment for the day.

Try to eat at least four times a day when trying to lose weight. Eating more often will increase your metabolism.

Mix up your energy macros on different days. You’re energy macros are Fats and Carbs. You want to give your body both, but you also want to have days where you eliminate each. This way you develop metabolic flexibility. People that eat carbs all the time don’t use fat as efficiently.
Mix in a couple no carb days throughout the week. This way you’re body has to become more efficient at using dietary fat and body fat as energy. If you think that what I just said means don’t have carbs at all then your an idiot. Not being able to properly metabolize carbs is just as bad as not being able to metabolize fat so mix it up.

Last thing with nutrition. You won’t have to portion control too much when eating foods with one ingredient because they are very filling due to the fact that they are high in fiber. As far as exercising. General rule of thumb if you want to burn fat exercise a minimum of 5-6 days a week. If you want to not gain fat or maintain your sexiness then exercise at least 3x a week. I know there’s different intensities of exercise I’m just giving you a generalization to shoot for based on the hundreds of people I have worked with.

Lift heavy weight. It not only burns way more calories faster than light weight, but heavy weight training also helps you build muscle and release more of the essential hormones you need to burn body fat.

Perform a mix of steady state cardio and Hiit cardio.

If you’re really doing high intensity cardio at a maximum intensity level it will almost always burn more fat than long duration steady state cardio. However, you’re body does need a rest from the high impact usually associated with HIIT Training.

Lastly and most importantly exercise on an empty stomach at least 3 days a week. This will not only help you develop better metabolic flexibility with the usage of fat, but it will also burn 300% more calories from fat, because to put it simply you won’t have any food to burn. After you’re done with these empty stomach workouts, wait 30 minutes before you eat because your body will continue burning fat.

ients maylive for some weeks or months. The only treatment for fistulaplaced high up is early operation before the patient has becometoo much enfeebled. The site of the fistula can be determinedby the character of the stools. The patient should be weigheddaily, and if loss of weight is shown operation should not bedelayed. The diet should be highly nutritious and such as toleave the smallest possible residuum in the intestines. Soup,eggs, milk, farinaceous food, scraped beef, peptones, rice pudding,young chicken, lamb, form the best diet; this is supplemented byrectal alimentation. Jejunal Feeding.—An attempt may alsobe made to place predigested foods in the efferent loop of thefistula. If this is possible it not only nourishes the patientbetter but prevents contracture of the portion of the bowelbelow the fistula. Reverse peristalsis tends to prevent feedingthrough the efferent loop. Spontaneous closure while possibleshould not be waited for as in the meantime the patient is losing
